Gail's First Kayak Fishing Adventure

We decided to try a fishing trip on Saturday. We really wanted to go to Lake Tecumseh, but the reeds along the Davinci Canal where too tall. Gail didn't want to hike through them, snakes you know. We thought about going to the Back Bay, but the Pungo Strawberry Festival started Saturday and the traffic through there would have taken at least an hour. Then we considered First Landing State Park, but the Memorial Day traffic at the Oceanfront would have been terrible. So we settled on Lesner Bridge.

My Captain in her rigged kayak........
Searching for those elusive fish.........
Soaking some bait.........and my feet.........Think that scared them away?

The one thing we didn't check was the tide. It was the lowest I have seen. We paddled back into some of the cuts and small islands we had scouted on previous trips. Normally the water is four to five feet deep. It was eighteen inches to two feet deep. The fish were nowhere to be found.

One stop along the way................

We paddled out into the middle of Linkhorn Bay to fish a sandbar that has been rumored to hold fish. No luck there either. The time flew by. We launched about 9:30 and it was now 12:30, so we decided to head back. To our amazement, the tide had receeded even more. there were several areas we had paddled through earlier that we now had to wade.

Slogging through the shallows........

Even though we didn't catch any fish, we had a good time. It took us about an hour to get back to the launch site, between paddling and wading. Headed for home about 2:30.

Can't close with out showing off my catch.

Catch of the day.....a "Weedfish".........with an oyster shell attached...........

After we got home and cleaned up, us and the boats, we went to Wild River Outfitters. When we were in Florida, I left my kayaking hat in the condo so we went in search of a new one. We left with a new hat for me, shorts for Gail, and a Mini-Kayak caddie. It's a set of wheels you strap to your kayak to transport it from your vehicle to the launch area. Much better than carrying them any distance. Tried it out yesterday in the yard and it works great. Now we'll have to go back to get one for the VBS HERS.

Gail's legs got pretty sunburned on Saturday, so we just hung out yesterday. The high point of the day - Gail decided that I needed to clean out my half of the closet. Moved all the winter stuff to the guest room closet and re-organized all my drawers. FUN - FUN - FUN.

Can't wait to see what's in store for today........
